Dear Members,
As 2018 comes to a close, we have positioned our Society well for a strong 2019.
PD & Events
Attendance at our recent Holiday Party with IABC Calgary was excellent, with many new faces attending from CPRS. We also had a large turnout at our last PD event, which was a breakfast event that covered PR research. Please check out website regularly for PD, social events and other activities as we have developed a robust calendar for the new year, including January.
Our 60th Anniversary year
Excellent progress is being made on all fronts regarding our year-long 60th Anniversary celebration through October 2019. Watch for details on our special CPRS Calgary ‘Move Night’ in February, our ’60 for 60’ giving back event and our soon to be announced ‘signature event’. I would also like to thank the volunteers who are spearheading these events, as a number of members have stepped forward to help organize, so much so that we were able to establish separate committees for each event.
Volunteering
One of our goals this year is to engage as many members as possible, which is why we established a separate Volunteer portfolio on our Board. As referenced above, by having many hands splitting the work, our volunteers are able to participate in one specific event or activity, streamlining their available time to contribute – which is a win-win for everyone. If you would like to volunteer this year, even if it’s just a few hours, please reach out to our Volunteer Chair Danielle Alfaro.
2019 National Conference in Edmonton
Registration is now open for the National Conference and I’m pleased to report that CPRS Calgary members are among the first to have taken advantage of the Early Bird rate. I am also pleased to report that CPRS will have a very visible presence at the conference. We are planning some specific social activities for our members who attend the conference, so please watch for updates and how you can join in.
In closing
As a Board, our goal for our members is to enhance your experience as a member of CPRS Calgary. This can be accomplished through relevant PD, the networking you continue to ask for in our membership surveys, or volunteering to broaden your experience or just to give back. We sincerely want to hear your ideas, requests and suggestions throughout the year. From full-day workshops to a social Pub Night, please let us know – we want to ensure our efforts are aligned with your priorities.
On behalf of the Board, thank you for your support in 2018. Sincere best wishes this holiday season and all the best in 2019.

Tom Ormsby, APR
