This panel discussion will delve into the 2019 federal election to discuss how changes to the media environment – such as the effects of fake news, foreign influence and new PR strategies – impacted each campaign.

We will look at specific events in the campaign – from the blackface scandal, to the issue of personal ethics within party politics – to discuss what led to Andrew Scheer’s recent resignation from leadership of the PC party, and assess how the change of leadership affects the current realities of a minority government.

We welcome panelists from Mount Royal University to lead this discussion:

David Taras, Ralph Klein Chair in Media Studies
Archie McLean, Assistant Professor, Journalism
Peter Ryan, APR,  Assistant Professor, Public Relations
